South Andean Huemul
Hippocamelus bisulcus

South Andean huemul live in cool Andean woodlands, shrub-covered valleys, and steep mountain slopes in Chile and Argentina. They browse on shrubs, leaves, herbs, and young shoots, moving carefully through rugged cover. Adults are usually solitary or found in small family groups, becoming alert and retreating into dense vegetation when disturbed. Males grow short, forked antlers that are used in displays and contests during the breeding season.
