Guadarrama Wall Lizard Hatchling
Podarcis guadarramae (hatchling)
Hatchlings shelter among sun-warmed rocks, stone walls, and crevices in mountainous central Iberian habitats. They make short, rapid dashes to catch tiny insects and spiders while avoiding larger predators. A threatened hatchling can shed its wriggling tail to distract an attacker and escape.
