Coastal Taipan
Oxyuranus scutellatus

Coastal taipans inhabit tropical and subtropical grasslands, cane fields, open woodland, and agricultural margins of northern Australia and southern New Guinea. They hunt mainly rodents, moving swiftly through cover and delivering repeated venomous bites to subdue prey. This highly venomous elapid can raise its forebody in a warning display before striking with exceptional speed.
