Flame Shell
Limaria hians

The adult flame shell lives on shallow coastal seabeds, often among coarse sediment and rocky debris. It filters plankton from the water, but can escape danger by forcefully clapping its valves and jetting away. Bright orange-red mantle tentacles give this small bivalve its fiery common name.
