Brittle Star
Ophiothela mirabilis
This tiny adult brittle star lives entwined among corals, gorgonians, sponges, and other reef hosts in tropical marine waters. It extends its slender arms into the current to collect plankton, detritus, and other suspended food. It has six arms rather than the five seen in many brittle stars, and can shed an arm to escape a predator before regenerating it.
