Bat Star
Patiria miniata

Adult bat stars inhabit rocky intertidal zones, tide pools, and shallow kelp-forest habitats along the Pacific coast. They are slow-moving omnivores that feed on algae, sponges, bryozoans, small invertebrates, and dead animals. A flexible body and eversible stomach allow them to digest food outside their mouths, while their colors range from orange and red to purple and blue.
