Canyon Towhee
Melozone fusca

Canyon Towhees live in arid canyons, desert scrub, thorny brush, and woodland edges of the southwestern United States and Mexico. They forage mostly on the ground, scratching through leaf litter for seeds, insects, and small fruits. When alarmed, they slip into dense cover or make a short, low flight between shrubs. Their strong double-scratch foraging motion is a notable way to uncover hidden food.
