Gall Gnat

The adult gall gnat occupies humid woodland and garden habitats where fungi and decaying vegetation are abundant. It flies in short, delicate bursts and seeks suitable moist sites for breeding. Adults have a notably brief life, with much of their development having occurred in the larval stage.
