Salmon Pink Birdeater
Lasiodora parahybana

The salmon pink birdeater is a huge terrestrial tarantula of humid Atlantic Forest habitats in northeastern Brazil, where it shelters in silk-lined burrows, crevices, and other protected retreats. It is chiefly nocturnal, waiting near its shelter before rushing small invertebrates and occasionally small vertebrate prey. Its diet includes insects, other arachnids, and sometimes frogs, lizards, or rodents. Despite its name, birds are not a regular part of its diet; the name reflects its formidable size and predatory reputation.
