Savanna Hawk
Buteogallus meridionalis

The Savanna Hawk lives in open grasslands, seasonally flooded savannas, and scattered woodland across South America. It hunts from low perches or while walking on the ground, taking insects, reptiles, amphibians, rodents, and small birds. Its broad wings allow it to soar over open country and swoop down with strong talons. This hawk is especially associated with termite mounds and recently burned grassland, where exposed prey is easier to catch.
