Northern Alligator Lizard
Elgaria coerulea
Northern alligator lizards live in damp forests, woodland edges, and shrubby areas, hiding under logs, rocks, and loose bark. They actively hunt insects, spiders, snails, and occasionally small vertebrates using strong jaws and a swift lunge. Despite their snake-like shape, they have small limbs and can readily drop the tail to evade attackers.
