Southern Giant Pouched Rat
Cricetomys ansorgei

Southern Giant Pouched Rats inhabit woodland, savanna, and cultivated areas in parts of central Africa. Mostly active at night, they forage for fruit, seeds, roots, insects, and other small food items. Large cheek pouches allow them to carry gathered food back to cover or a burrow. Their strong sense of smell makes them notably effective at locating hidden food.
