Northern Scorpion
Paruroctonus boreus

The northern scorpion inhabits dry grasslands, sagebrush country, sandy soils, and open woodland across parts of western North America. It spends much of the day sheltered in a shallow burrow or beneath stones, becoming active at night to hunt insects and other small invertebrates. It seizes prey with its pincers and delivers venom with the curved tail when needed. This species is notably cold-tolerant and occurs farther north than most North American scorpions.
