Amazonian Giant Centipede
Scolopendra gigantea

The Amazonian giant centipede lives in humid tropical forests of northern South America, sheltering beneath logs, stones, and leaf litter. It is a nocturnal ambush predator that takes insects, spiders, small frogs, lizards, and occasionally bats. Its modified front legs, called forcipules, inject venom to subdue prey. Despite its name, it is an agile hunter that can climb and move rapidly over rough forest-floor terrain.
