Jet Ant
Lasius fuliginosus

Jet Ant workers inhabit wooded areas, parks, and hedgerows, nesting in soil, timber, or carton-like structures built from chewed wood. They forage for honeydew, insects, and other small invertebrates, using their mandibles to handle food and defend themselves. When threatened, they can release irritating formic acid as a chemical defense. The glossy black workers are known for their strong citrus-like odor when disturbed.
