Kinorhynch
Echinoderes horni

Echinoderes horni is a microscopic marine kinorhynch, or mud dragon, that lives among fine sediment in coastal waters. It pushes its spiny, retractable head through sand and mud while searching for tiny organic particles, algae, and microbes. Its segmented cuticle provides protection, and it periodically molts as it grows. Although almost invisible to the naked eye, it is an active member of the sediment-dwelling meiofauna.
