Lake Sturgeon
Acipenser fulvescens
Adult lake sturgeon inhabit large lakes and rivers, usually cruising along deep bottoms and spawning over clean, rocky riverbeds. They use their barbels and extendable mouth to vacuum up insect larvae, mollusks, crustaceans, and occasional small fish. This ancient-looking fish can live for more than a century and grow to exceptional size.
