Shovelnose Sturgeon
Scaphirhynchus platorynchus

Adults inhabit the channels of large rivers, especially stretches with strong current and shifting sandbars. They use sensitive barbels and a flattened snout to locate aquatic insect larvae, crustaceans, and small fish along the bottom. Despite their armored appearance, shovelnose sturgeon have no teeth and draw prey in with a protrusible mouth.
