Red-naped Sapsucker
Sphyrapicus nuchalis

Red-naped Sapsuckers inhabit mountain forests, riparian woods, and wooded neighborhoods across western North America. They drill orderly rows of sap wells in trees, feeding on the sap and the insects attracted to it. This woodpecker migrates seasonally and vigorously defends productive feeding trees from rivals.
