Antilles Pinktoe Tarantula
Caribena versicolor

This arboreal tarantula lives in humid forests of Martinique, Guadeloupe, and nearby Caribbean islands, sheltering in silk-lined retreats among leaves, bromeliads, and tree hollows. It waits near its retreat for insects and other small invertebrates, then lunges quickly and delivers venom through its fangs. Juveniles are striking metallic blue, while adults develop greenish carapaces and pink-tipped feet; unlike many tarantulas, it is known for its vivid adult coloration.
