Common Whorl Snail
Vertigo pygmaea

Adults inhabit moist leaf litter, mossy ground, and herb-rich calcareous grasslands, often remaining concealed among low vegetation. They feed by rasping algae, fungi, and decomposing plant matter from damp surfaces. Despite being one of the smallest land snails, the adult carries a distinctively whorled shell that can be sealed away from drying air.
