White-lipped Island Pitviper
Trimeresurus insularis
The adult white-lipped island pitviper lives in trees, shrubs, and dense forest vegetation across parts of Indonesia. A nocturnal ambush hunter, it feeds mainly on small mammals, birds, lizards, and frogs detected with heat-sensitive facial pits. Its variable green, yellow, or blue coloration helps it disappear among foliage while it waits with its body coiled for a rapid venomous strike.
