Long-Spined Sea Urchin
Diadema antillarum
Adults live on Caribbean coral reefs, especially in shallow rocky areas with abundant algae. They usually shelter in crevices by day and emerge to graze across reef surfaces at night. Their exceptionally long, brittle spines deter attackers and can deliver a painful venomous puncture when handled.
