Spotted Ground Spider
Zygometis xanthogaster

The spotted ground spider is an Australian hunting spider that shelters beneath bark, stones, and ground litter in dry woodland and scrub. It hunts alone, relying on quick bursts of speed and an ambush from cover to catch small insects and other arthropods. Prey is subdued with a venomous bite before being consumed. Its flattened body and mottled markings help it remain inconspicuous against the forest floor.
