Common Tern
Sterna hirundo

The adult Common Tern is a slender seabird of coasts, islands, estuaries, lakes, and large rivers across much of the Northern Hemisphere. It hunts mainly by hovering or flying over water before plunge-diving for small fish, crustaceans, and aquatic insects. In defense of its nest, it may dive-bomb intruders and give sharp alarm calls. One notable fact is its long migration, with many birds traveling between northern breeding grounds and distant wintering seas.
