Russet mite
Aceria anthocoptes

The russet mite is a microscopic eriophyid mite found on Canada thistle and occasionally other closely related plants. It feeds by piercing surface cells with tiny stylets, causing bronzing, curled leaves, stunted shoots, and reduced flowering. Individuals shelter in leaf folds, buds, and other protected plant crevices, with females overwintering beneath bud scales. Unlike many mites, it has only two pairs of legs and a long, wormlike body.
