Mangrove Monitor
Varanus indicus

Mangrove monitors inhabit coastal forests, mangroves, swamps, and nearby streams across parts of New Guinea and surrounding islands. They hunt crabs, fish, eggs, carrion, and small vertebrates, using sharp claws and strong jaws to seize food. An accomplished swimmer, this monitor can use its laterally compressed tail to propel itself through water.
