Spotted Tilapia
Pelmatolapia mariae

Spotted tilapia inhabit warm freshwater rivers, lakes, marshes, and vegetated shorelines. They graze on algae and plant material, while also taking small invertebrates and other available food. Adults can become strongly territorial around breeding sites, using displays, chases, and bites against intruders. The species is a capable colonizer and has established introduced populations outside its native African range.
