Red Sand Boa
Eryx johnii

The red sand boa lives in dry grassland, scrub, farmland, and sandy soils, where it burrows beneath loose earth. It waits in ambush for rodents, lizards, and other small vertebrates before gripping and constricting them. Adults are slow-moving above ground but strong and well adapted to pushing through soil. Its short, rounded tail closely resembles its head and is often used to misdirect threats.
