Lesser Water Bug
Belostoma minor
The adult lesser water bug inhabits vegetated ponds, marshes, and quiet edges of streams. It is an ambush predator that seizes aquatic insects, small fish, and amphibian larvae with raptorial front legs. Adults can fly between water bodies when conditions change. Like other giant water bugs, males may carry eggs attached to their backs until they hatch.
