Balkan Terrapin Hatchling
Mauremys rivulata (hatchling)

Freshly hatched Balkan terrapins leave upland nests and seek sheltered edges of streams, ponds, and wetlands. They spend much of their time concealed among aquatic plants or mud, feeding mainly on small aquatic invertebrates, tadpoles, and carrion. Hatchlings are especially vulnerable to predators, although their small shells already provide some protection.
