Scophthalmus rhombus
Adult brill live on sandy and mixed seabeds in coastal and offshore waters. They lie partly buried or blend into the bottom before ambushing fish, squid, and crustaceans. Their mottled upper surface can rapidly adjust in shade to match the surrounding seafloor.
