Bluestripe Pipefish
Doryrhamphus excisus

Adults inhabit sheltered coral reefs and lagoons, usually hovering close to branching coral, sponges, or seagrass. They stalk copepods, amphipods, and other minute crustaceans before sucking them in through a tubular snout. The prehensile tail anchors the fish against the current while it waits in cover. As in other pipefishes, the male carries developing eggs in a brood pouch until the young are released.
