Giant Spiny Stick Insect
Eurycantha calcarata

The adult giant spiny stick insect inhabits tropical forest in New Guinea, hiding in vegetation or sheltered spots by day and becoming active at night. It eats foliage, using its chewing mouthparts to feed on a range of leaves. Adults are heavily built for stick insects and are covered in sturdy spines. When threatened, they can brace themselves and use their spiny legs to discourage a predator.
