Black Beauty Stick Insect
Peruphasma schultei
Adults inhabit leafy shrubs and small trees in a restricted region of northern Peru. They forage nocturnally on leaves and spend daylight hours resting quietly among vegetation. Their glossy black coloration and red warning markings advertise the pungent defensive spray used to discourage predators.
