European Plaice
Pleuronectes platessa
European plaice live on sandy and muddy seabeds from shallow coasts to deeper offshore waters. They feed chiefly on worms, crustaceans, molluscs, and small fish, often uncovering prey from the sediment. The adult can rapidly alter the pattern and brightness of its upper surface to blend with the seafloor.
