Broadnosed Pipefish
Syngnathus typhle
Adult broadnosed pipefish inhabit eelgrass beds, seaweed-covered coasts, and sheltered brackish shallows. They move slowly through vegetation, ambushing small crustaceans and sucking them in through a tubular snout. Males carry developing eggs in a brood pouch, providing the young with protection until they are released.
