Christmas Tree Worm
Spirobranchus giganteus

Adult Christmas tree worms live embedded in coral reefs throughout warm tropical seas. Their paired spiral crowns filter plankton and other fine food from the water while also serving in respiration. At the slightest shadow or touch, they vanish into their hard tube with remarkable speed. The bright crown colors vary widely, from blue and orange to yellow, red, and white.
