Ornate Wobbegong
Orectolobus ornatus

The ornate wobbegong inhabits shallow coastal reefs, rocky ledges, and sandy seabeds of eastern Australia. It spends much of the day resting motionless, its ornate mottled pattern and skin lobes breaking up its outline against the bottom. A nocturnal ambush hunter, it eats fishes, crabs, lobsters, and octopuses that venture close to its broad mouth. Despite its elaborate camouflage, it can be defensive when disturbed and has a strong bite lined with sharp teeth.
