Rock-boring Urchin
Echinometra lucunter

Adults inhabit shallow tropical reefs, limestone shores, and rocky tide pools in the western Atlantic and Caribbean. They feed mainly by scraping algae from rock with a complex set of teeth, emerging from crevices to graze. Repeated scraping and spine movement can deepen sheltered pits in soft limestone, giving this urchin its rock-boring name.
