Peppered Corydoras
Hoplisoma paleatum

Peppered Corydoras live on the bottoms of slow-moving streams, ponds, and seasonally flooded wetlands in South America. They sift through soft substrate with their barbels, feeding on small invertebrates, organic debris, and leftover food. Bony plates and sharp pectoral-fin spines provide protection from predators. When oxygen is scarce, an individual can gulp air at the surface and absorb oxygen through its intestine.
