Rock Hyrax
Procavia capensis
Rock hyraxes live on sunlit cliffs, kopjes, and boulder fields across much of Africa and the Middle East. They spend the day basking, feeding on grasses, leaves, fruit, and bark, and taking refuge in deep rock fissures. Agile feet and quick reflexes let them scramble across steep, uneven stone. Despite their marmot-like appearance, their closest living relatives include elephants and manatees.
