Southern Three-Banded Armadillo
Tolypeutes matacus

The southern three-banded armadillo lives in the dry forests, thorn scrub, and savannas of central South America. It forages mainly for ants and termites, using strong claws to break into nests and a long sticky tongue to collect prey. When threatened, it can roll into a remarkably tight armored ball, sealing its softer underside behind overlapping plates.
