Bark beetle
Xylosandrus germanus

Adult bark beetles fly from host to host and bore into weakened or freshly cut hardwood trees. Females establish galleries and carry ambrosia fungi that provide food for themselves and their young. The beetles spend most of their lives concealed beneath bark or within the wood. Despite its tiny size, this introduced species can spread tree diseases and damage stressed forests.
