California Kingsnake
Lampropeltis californiae
California kingsnakes inhabit deserts, chaparral, grasslands, farms, and woodland edges across California and nearby regions. They actively hunt rodents, lizards, birds, eggs, and other snakes, overpowering prey with a firm bite and muscular coils. Though nonvenomous, they are notably resistant to the venom of several local pit vipers and may prey upon them.
