Pallas's Cat
Otocolobus manul
Pallas's cats inhabit open steppe, rocky slopes, and cold semi-deserts across Central Asia. They hunt mainly alone, using low cover and patient stalking to ambush pikas, voles, gerbils, and small birds. Their compact build and exceptionally dense fur protect them from severe winter conditions. The broad, flattened face and low-set ears help conceal the cat while it watches prey from sparse cover.
