Tench
Tinca tinca
Adult tench live near the bottom of still or slow freshwater, especially in densely vegetated lakes, ponds, and backwaters. They search mud and plant roots for insect larvae, worms, molluscs, and crustaceans. Their thick mucus coating helps protect the skin, and their distinctive red eyes stand out against an otherwise olive-green body.
