Wolf Spider
Hogna radiata

Hogna radiata is a ground-hunting wolf spider found in dry grassland, scrub, field margins, and open woodland around the Mediterranean region. Rather than building a prey-catching web, it prowls at night and rapidly chases down insects and other small invertebrates. Its mottled brown pattern helps it disappear against soil and leaf litter, while its venom subdues prey. Females carry their egg sac with them and later transport newly hatched spiderlings on their back.
