New Forest Cicada
Cicadetta montana

The adult lives in sunny woodland clearings, heath, and grassy slopes, resting among low vegetation and trees. It feeds on plant sap with its piercing beak and is most active during warm weather. Males produce a distinctive ticking song by vibrating specialized abdominal membranes to attract mates.
