Andean Squirrel Kit
Sciurus pucheranii (kit)
This kit remains high in a leafy nest in Andean cloud forest while its mother forages nearby. It feeds mainly on milk, gradually sampling soft fruits, seeds, and young plant material as it grows. Its eyes open after birth, and it develops coordination for short climbs and leaps before leaving the nest.
